Overview

When I volunteered in psychological counseling room to help with college students in HNU, I found they faced huge challenges in daily life when emotionally unstable.

According to 2019 Chinese University Students Health Survey Report, there are 37000K college students in China, and 91% of college students have tried to solve psychological anxiety, but due to lack of scientific guidance, diversion with no professional help is their first choice.

Stressful and anxious students struggled to adapt to the world and pretended to be happy, spending great effort learning self-emotion regulation.

What are mentally struggling college students facing?

  • Inattention & Mood swings greatly

  • Falling into anxiety cycle

  • Hard to address emotional problems

  • Heavily relying on non professional helper over Internet

  • Feel shameful for psychological counseling

 

How to help them?

To tackle the problem, I designed the tactile meditation system, which enables mentally struggling college students to increase concentration, consult remotely and get professional psychological guidance.

How do college students solve mental problems?

I conducted field research and interviewed five students and two psychologists to find out how they solve mental problems:

1.Counseling client heavily relying on verbally describing and paperwork tracing problems,

and appointments are made with the help of an assistant.

2. College students tend to face struggles alone by occupying listening and viewing,

but touching has its advantages over the other senses:

Users can use touchable products to achieve two goals:

  • Concentration with enhanced tactile perception

  • Meditation without distraction
